The Joint Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta during what they called Operation Delta Safe (ODS), have killed two suspected members of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), and arrested three others over the killing of four soldiers in Bayelsa state. On August 8, the gunmen attacked and killed four soldiers stationed at a military checkpoint at the entrance of Nembe community in Nembe local government area of the state. 

The gunmen reportedly dressed in a white mourning outfit as if they were in funeral procession, then they ambushed the detachment of the soldiers, killed them and carted away their arms, ammunition and gunboat.

According to Punch, the JTF Commander, Rear Admiral Joseph Okojie, said during Monday’s operation, that they had searched for the gunmen, a search which led them to a hideout in a camp at Saraba Creek, near Okiama community,Okigbene. 

The community in the southern Ijaw local government, was where the soldiers located the gunmen and engaged them in a gun duel, leading to the death of two suspects and the arrest of three others. 

The arrested suspects were on Tuesday, August 23, paraded at the headquarters of the ODS at Igbogene in Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa state. Meanwhile, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MJTF) have killed 27 Boko Haram terrorists in the border town between Nigeria and Cameroon.

This information was revealed by the commander of a regional army force on Thursday, August 18. Although Nigeria has been making headway in its fight against terrorism, the insurgents have not been completely decimated with the latest encounter showing some of them still exist.
