The 5th episode of the flagship Forbes Africa TV show, “My Worst Day with Peace Hyde” features Nigerian celebrated music producer Don Jazzy. Hosted by Forbes Africa’s West Africa correspondent Peace Hyde , the music mogul shares his most challenging day in business.

Don Jazzy also dishes on his family, his parents, falling in love with music as a child, working tough jobs in the UK, and the real reason behind the Mo’Hits breakup.

Speaking on the odd security guard job he did while in the UK, he said: “It’s one of those things that happen to guys in the UK. You don’t have a job. I used to play drums for churches, but it was not enough to pay for rent in the UK.

He noted that he didn’t think he was suffering back then, even though he sat during cold temperatures, guarding uncompleted buildings at night till the workers come in the morning.

“I am always content with any situation that I am in,” he said, adding that what’s important is that he is most concerned about earning that pay

Mavin Records family Don Jazzy started after split with D’banj

Mavin Record CEO also opened up for the first time on his split up with D’banj. He called it the worst decision he has made.

He said: “The decision for myself and my former partner D’banj to tow different paths, at that point, I don’t think it was the right decision.” He added that D’banj left with a ‘lot of things. I lost a friend and a brother.”

He however noted that they both made that decision to part ways. Jazzy said that D’banj wanted to try the American market, a huge step he wasn’t ready for because of the other artist on Mo’Hits Records then. He feared for the fate of his other ‘children’ – Wande Coal, D’Prince, Dr SID, who would all be left hanging.

That was a split he never saw coming. He mentioned that the media did not help them manage the split well, they rather made it worst reading meaning to every move of both of them.

The Mavin Record boss hinted that if that split with D’banj had not happened there wouldn’t have been a chance for Korede Bello, Reekado Banks and others. He also talk aof collaborating with D’banj in future which can even be something bigger than that.
