Mrs Ambode stressed that the skill acquisition training and empowerment programmes being sponnsored by the state government, aim to place beneficiaries on sound footing for economic self- reliance.

Some of the tuition-free multifarious vocations and courses include: Photography, textile design, adult literacy, computer studies, shoe and leather works, hair dressing/barbing and cosmetology, fashion design and dress making, vulcanizing/wheel balancing, among others.

Ambode made the remark at the 2016 graduation ceremony for 5,951 graduands of skill acquisition centres across the state, being organized by the state’s Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, held weekend, at Alausa, Ikeja.

Acknowledging the harsh economic situation in the country, Ambode said, “The establishment of skill acquisition centres by Lagos State Government is a deliberate initiative at building society through direct training of ladies, young women and others in various skills of vocations. ”

This is meant to pull you out of the unemployment market, make you economically self dependant and eventually, employers of labour.”

In addition, she said: “The skill which you now possess, is the tool you have always needed to fend for yourselves and even employ people
